LCAP Questions for the Superintendent - May 2025

  • Question: How can we provide more organized after-school activities for °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ like sports, dance, or team-building?

Answer: We are exploring ways to offer more structured after-school activities that promote teamwork, skill-building, and positive social interaction. These may include sports, dance, and other enrichment programs, depending on staff availability and community partnerships. Our goal is to support °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ’ interests while supporting character development and school engagement. We are also looking for ways to increase staffing for after-school supervision and secure additional funding to support extended learning opportunities beyond the regular workday.

Question: Can we increase time for tutoring and academic support after school?

Answer: Yes. We are actively working to expand after-school tutoring to support °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ who need additional academic help. We understand the importance of access to learning outside of the regular day and will continue to look for funding sources to provide more opportunities, particularly for °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ who may not be able to participate in ELOP programs every day.

Question: Can °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ work more often in teams to collaborate and learn from each other?

Answer: Collaborative learning is a priority and builds essential skills like communication, problem-solving, and empathy. Teachers are working to create more opportunities for teamwork while maintaining a thoughtful balance with teacher-led instruction and purposeful use of technology.

Question: Can we focus more on encouraging kindness, allyship, and positive peer relationships?

Answer: Yes. We are emphasizing skills growth through positive reinforcement and recognition of kind behavior. Staff are modeling and teaching kindness, empathy, and inclusion. There has been a request to make demonstrations of kindness more explicit, such as encouraging °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ to say hello, greet one another, and introduce themselves to peers, especially as they get older.

Question: What is the district doing to recognize and celebrate °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ’ successes?

Answer: We are committed to recognizing student growth and achievement through feedback, awards, and celebrating what’s going well. Each student's success, big or small, matters. We are also exploring ways each school site can expand positive acknowledgments and feedback for all °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ.

Question: How are we supporting safe and welcoming campuses for parents?

Answer: We are strengthening systems that allow parents to engage with the school while ensuring student safety. This includes clear visitor protocols, scheduled events, and improved communication about how families can participate. One new idea we’re considering is adding welcoming signage and contact information to help parents feel seen and supported every day.

Question: What steps are being taken to help °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ treat each other with respect?

Answer: Teachers and staff provide direct instruction and team-building experiences that model respectful behaviors—like greetings, introductions, and inclusive interactions. Programs like Peace Patrol help °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ lead efforts to promote a positive climate. We are reinforcing positive behaviors through acknowledgment and keeping them at the forefront of school-wide expectations and practices.

Question: How do we help parents feel more connected to the school?

Answer: We want every parent to feel welcomed and valued. Through classroom visits, school events, volunteer opportunities, and clear communication, we’re working to create consistent and meaningful ways for families to engage and build trust at each site.

Question: How can °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ and parents get involved in making the school better?

Answer: We welcome student and parent voices through advisory groups, surveys, and volunteer roles. Community input helps shape our learning environments and shared values. We’ve heard strong feedback about increasing student voice in problem-solving, decision-making, and learning experiences. We’re committed to creating more opportunities for °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ to contribute solutions that help improve their schools.
